Azerbaijan expands scope of fight against corruption

New concepts are being introduced into the legislation of Azerbaijan – “corruption risk”, “corruption risk management”, “authorized structural unit (person)”, and the concept of “corruption” is being expanded. As Trend reports on Friday, this issue is reflected in the proposed amendment to the law “On Combating Corruption”, which was discussed today at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan.
According to the draft law, corruption will cover the illegal request or receipt by officials of material and other benefits, privileges or benefits using their status, the status of the body (institution) they represent, official powers or opportunities arising from these statuses and powers. Also, corruption will be considered the acceptance of an offer or promise, as well as the receipt by individuals and legal entities of the said material and other benefits, privileges or benefits, as well as the illegal offer, promise or provision of benefits to officials. The likelihood of committing corruption offences or offences that create conditions for corruption will be considered a corruption risk. The identification of corruption risks and their corresponding objectives, as well as the analysis, assessment and adoption of measures to prevent them in order to reduce corruption risks, will be considered corruption risk management.
