Ship captain accused of spying for Iran files appeal to Supreme Court of Azerbaijan

A cassation appeal has been filed against the verdict handed down to former captain of the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet Zahir Askerov, who is accused of treason. According to APA, the appeal was filed with Supreme Court judge Tahir Kazimov.

The court hearing on the case is scheduled for June 18, 2025. Zahir Askerov was sentenced to 16 years in prison by the Baku Grave Crimes Court.
