Case of person accused in connection with Formula 1 completed

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes has completed the trial of the criminal case against the former head of the department of the Baku City Circuit (BCC) operating company Chingiz Mehdiyev, accused of embezzling about 400 thousand manats while organizing the Formula 1 races, Oxu.Az reports.

At the last trial chaired by Judge Leyla Mammadova-Asgarova, the state prosecutor proposed the court to sentence the accused Chingiz Mehdiyev to 10 years in prison.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 13.

According to the indictment, in 2016-2018, Chingiz Mehdiyev embezzled 397,852.82 manats allocated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the BCC operating company for organizing the Formula 1 races in Baku. In addition, Mehdiyev legalized the funds entrusted to him by transferring 1,436,735.18 manat in parts from February to November 2020 to the account of his brother Zaur Mehdiyev in the American bank Bank of America.
