Journalist-blackmailer sentenced to six and a half years

The Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes has completed the criminal investigation of Asim Aliyev, accused of extortion, oxu.az reports. At the trial, chaired by Judge Neymat Mammadov, the verdict was read out, according to which the defendant was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison.
A. Aliyev, who was the author of the Saatlı TV channel and the 13Asim13 profile on TikTok, was detained by the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. Posing as an independent journalist, he threatened officials with the dissemination of negative information about them on his social networks and channels, demanding various amounts of money for their silence.
Among his victims were the chairman of the municipality of the village of Varkhan in the Saatli district, the director of the Saatli district center for hygiene and epidemiology, the chief accountant of one of the companies, the director of the Saatli district secondary school in the village of Gyragly, the head of one of the departments of the Saatli district and the deputy director of the Saatli central district hospital. Asim Aliyev extorted money from them, threatening to publish defamatory information otherwise.
