Azerbaijani border guards prevent drug smuggling from Iran
The State Border Service (SBS) has neutralized an organized group that attempted to smuggle a large amount of drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan, the SBS’s press service told APA.
Azerbaijani border guards detained in the service area of a border post located in Bilasuvar’s Amankend village a group of citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran – Iraj Khodai, Ramin Masarrad and Hasan Taghizadeh – along with Aghjabadi district residents Elshan Ismayilov and Novruz Bayramov who were there to meet them.
They were found out to be carrying a package of dried marijuana (7.7 kg), a pair of night vision goggles, one knife, and three cell phones.
As a result of further investigative-operational measures taken in order to find other members of the group, Aghjabadi district resident Khagani Nuruyev, Sabirabad’s Garaghaj village resident Rovshan Huseynov and Parviz Aghayev were detained.
The State Border Service’s Investigation and Interrogation Department launched a criminal case over the fact. The detainees were put in pretrial detention under a court verdict. Search operations to find others participants of the crime continue.
It is noted that, the drug smuggling was arranged by Iranian citizens Jalili Ramin and Hafis whose identities are still unclear to investigation.
