27 years imprisonment for espionage
The Baku Court on Grave Crimes completed the hearing on Lankaran residents Faig Gurbanov and Seymur Rzazade accused of collaborating with the Iranian intelligence agencies, APA reports.
The verdict was passed at the hearing presided over by judge Eldar Ismayilov. According to the verdict, Faig Gurbanov was sentenced to 14-year imprisonment and Seymur Rzazade to 13-year imprisonment.
The public demanded 15-year imprisonment for each of the accused persons.
According to the bill of indictment, they are accused of collaborating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (SEPAH). They face charges under article # 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code. Faig Gurbanov collaborated with Bilal – employee of SEPAH in 2013. That person instructed Gurbanov to obtain confidential information about Azerbaijan.
Seymur Rzazade collaborated with Gaffari – an employee of SEPAH.
They were arrested as a result of the operation conducted by the Ministry of National Security.
