Next court session on the case of R. Mirgadyrov

On December 16, 2015 at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes presided over by Judge Alisultan Osmanov, held a regular session on the case of journalist Rauf Mirgadyrov, reports haqqin.az.

After the meeting, which was held behind closed doors, Fuad Agayev, the journalist’s lawyer, said that the public prosecutor demanded to sentence R. Mirgadyrov to seven years in prison.

Later, the prosecutor, guided by Article 62 of the Criminal Code (appointment of a milder punishment than that provided for the offense), asked the court to commute a sentence of a journalist.

The next meeting on this case is scheduled on 23 December 2015.

Internet portal notes that R. Mirgadyrov was arrested in Turkey on April 10, 2014 and deported to Azerbaijan. He was charged under article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code. April 19 last year against him was a preventive measure in the form of arrest for three months. After this period his arrest was extended several times.
