Court rejects appeal J. Haciyev

On 17 December, 2015 Narimanov District Court of Baku considered the appeal by Jahangir Hajiyev, former chairman of Azerbaijan’s International Bank, who is under arrest, against the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, told APA his lawyer.

The court rejected the appeal.

On Dec.5, 2015 the Narimanov District Court sentenced Hajiyev to 4-months pretrial detention.

The defensive side said Hajiyev is still being held at the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, while according to the law a person put in pretrial detention has to be sent to an investigation isolator in 24 hours.

The defensive side asks the Narimanov District Court to consider his detention at the department illegal.

Hajiyev faces charges under articles 179.1 (assignment or waste, plunder of property entrusted to guilty by another person) and 308 (abusing official powers) of the Criminal Code.
