Pretrial detention period extended for some detained over Nardaran events

Nasimi District Court on Friday decided to prolong until July 3 the pretrial detention period for Nahid Gahramanov, who was detained over the recent events in the Nardaran township of Baku, lawyer Bakhtiyar Hajiyev told APA.

Hajiyev said that no evidence was presented at the hearing.

According to him, Gahramanov was detained two days after the Nardaran events and he pleads not guilty.

Hajiyev added that the pre-trial detention period has also been extended for some detainees of the Nardaran events.

On 26 November 2015, law-enforcement authorities conducted a special operation in Nardaran. During the operation, the police were fired from automatic weapons and met armed resistance, and hand grenades were thrown on them. As a result, four attackers were killed and several others were injured.

14 members of the movement Muslim Unity, headed by Taleh Bagirov, were arrested.

Two police officers died during the operation.
