Statistics of road accidents in Baku

Since the beginning of 2016, a total of 172 road accidents have taken place in Azerbaijan, leaving 32 people dead and 206 others injured, the chief of the PR department of the State Traffic Police Office, Vagif Asadov, told APA on Monday.

According to him, this is fewer than the previous year’s analogous figure by 54 accidents and the number of the dead and injured are therefore also relatively fewer.

“This is due to the result of the measures taken by traffic police. 47% traffic accidents occurred due to exceeding high speed limits and 50% include pedestrian crashes. 262,379 administrative protocols were filed by traffic police for security reasons. 4,450 protocols were filed over driving while intoxicated, 1,679 over exceeding high speed limits, 1,251 over violation of passenger transport, and more than 42,000 protocol were filed over violating racing and maneuvering rules. During this period, 33,738 pedestrians were fined,” he said, adding that the Central Information Center has taken necessary actions against 164,000 drivers.
