State Security Service held special operation: Terrorists liquidated

On 31 January 2017, officers of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS) conducted a special operation, which resulted in liquidation of four terrorists, haqqin.az reports citing information received from the SSS department of public relations.

According to the press release, a group of Azerbaijani citizens, who had sworn to international terrorist groups operating outside of Azerbaijan, because of religious extremism, acquiring guns and explosives, was planning terrorist attacks in various parts of the country. As a result of the State Security Service investigation the information was confirmed, and it was decided to carry out emergency measures.

On 31 January 2017, there was held a special operation on detention of Azerbaijani citizens M. Ulubekov nicknamed ‘Abu Hafs,’ G. Damirov nicknamed ‘Abdulgarib,’ F. Sadikhov nicknamed ‘Abdulhalid,’ T. Almammadov and S. Mammadov nicknamed ‘Abdullah’ suspected of planning terrorist attacks.

During the raid participants of the criminal group M. Ulubekov, T. Almammadov, G. Damirov and S. Mammadov showed resistance and opened fire from machine guns and pistols at the special group of the SSS. Special operations group of the SSS, in accordance with the requirements of the law, used service weapons and liquidated these terrorists.

F. Sadikhov was detained.

Currently, operative-investigative activities are continuing.
