Persons suspected of blackmail arrested

Police officers have detained several people on suspicion of a series of robberies in Baku, the information Internet portal oxu.az reports.

On November 26, 2021, a foreign citizen receiving higher education in Baku contacted the police and said that a person he met on a social network called him to a meeting at the Ganlygel lake in the Yasamal district. There, four unknown persons used physical violence against him and took away a mobile phone worth 1,500 manats and 100 manats.

These individuals then filmed the humiliating actions against the foreigner on a mobile phone camera and threatened the latter to spread the video on social media if he complained to the police.

As a result of operational-search activities, employees of the Yasamal district police department and the 28th police station detained Agababa Musayev, Elnur Veliyev, Nihat Rahimli, Subkhan Khanlarov and Agshin Mammadov, as well as their leader Sadig Ovchiyev, on suspicion of blackmail.

The investigation found that these persons committed similar actions against another 12 people.

In the course of familiarization with the contents of the detainees’ mobile phones, videos of their illegal actions and threats against various people were found.

Based on these facts, a criminal case has been initiated. By a court decision, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for the detainees.

Citizens who have become victims of the actions of this group are asked to report this to the Yasamal District Police Department, local police authorities, as well as to the call center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs 102 and to the official accounts of the department in social networks.
