Sentence for former judge reduced

The term of punishment for the former judge of the Sabunchi District Court Fagan Akhmedov, accused of murdering his wife, has been reduced, oxu.az reports referring to his lawyer Beylyar Mamishov.

F. Akhmedov sentenced to 10 years in prison was reduced to 7 years at the trial chaired by Judge Elmar Rahimov at the Baku Court of Appeal.

Thus, the investigative department of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan investigated a criminal case initiated under Article 120.1 (attempted murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the fact of the murder of Baku resident Parvana Akhmedova. During the investigation, it turned out that on May 30, 2021, during a quarrel, P. Akhmedov was shot dead by her husband F. Akhmedov, who at that time held the position of a judge of the Sabunchi District Court.

F. Akhmedov was charged as an accused under article 120.1 (attempted murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen against him by a court decision.

By the verdict of the Baku Court for Grave Crimes, F. Akhmedov was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a strict regime correctional facility. Dissatisfied with the verdict, the former judge filed an appeal.
