Drug courier detained for resisting police

Employees of the Main Department for Combating Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan stopped the illegal circulation of a large consignment of drugs, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the ministry.

Earlier, the department received operational information about the receipt by two unknown of various drugs smuggled into the country, and the intention to sell them.

During a special operation, Vugar Jafarov, previously convicted of drug trafficking, was detained. In the package that was with him, the police found about 32 kg of drugs and psychotropic substances, including marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine and methadone.

The second suspect, Rovshan Gasimov, offered armed resistance to the police and tried to escape from the crime scene in an Opel car. The police had to use weapons against the criminal.

The wounded R. Gasimov received first aid and was hospitalized.

During the arrest, R. Gasimov was found to have a Makarov pistol, a magazine and cartridges for it, as well as 500 g of methamphetamine, electronic scales and bank cards.

A criminal case has been initiated on this fact, an investigation is underway.
