Arrested the head of a construction company

On the basis of appeals received by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General in connection with the illegal actions of officials of the housing construction cooperative (HCC) Star-M, a criminal case was initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, reports oxu.az with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office Azerbaijan.

The investigation established that in 2018-2021, Maharram Maharramov, who was the founder and head of the Star-M housing cooperative, as well as the actual head of ŞANS LLC, sold 17 apartments located in residential buildings built by cooperatives to 36 persons by drawing up fictitious contracts and financial statements. In the same way, he illegally sold 7 more non-residential premises to 14 persons. The investigation had reasonable suspicions that they had embezzled 3,166,000 manats.

On the basis of sufficient evidence collected in the case, M. Maharramov was charged under Articles 178.3.2 (fraud causing significant damage), 308.2 (abuse of official powers resulting in grave consequences) and 313 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The investigation is currently ongoing.
