President Ilham Aliyev paid tribute to the memory of Azerbaijanis who died for victory over fascism

Today marks 77 years since the historic victory over fascism, APA reports. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, visited the grave of twice Hero of the Soviet Union Hazi Aslanov, laid flowers at his statue, and paid tribute to the memory of all Azerbaijanis killed in the war.

The people of Azerbaijan made a significant contribution to the historic victory over fascism. Our people, to which great merits in achieving the Victory belong, sent 600,000 of their sons and daughters to the front. Of these, more than 300 thousand died heroically in battle. For the courage shown in this war, 123 representatives of Azerbaijan were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, more than 170 thousand of our soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals.

People always remember the historical courage of the sons of Azerbaijan, who passed a glorious military path in the Great Patriotic War. The national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev, returning to power in 1993, restored the rights of war veterans, calling them “the golden fund of our people.” The solution of social problems of war veterans is also in the center of attention of President Ilham Aliyev. On the eve of May 9 – Victory Day, they are provided with material assistance.
