Appeal of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan

Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva appealed to state and local self-government bodies, scientific, educational and medical institutions, civil society institutions in connection with the announcement of Human Rights Month, day.az reports with reference to the Office of the Ombudsman, the appeal reads:

“At various stages of Azerbaijan’s development, a number of strategically important documents have been developed and approved – a state program, a national action plan and a program that serve to increase the effectiveness of human rights protection.

It should be noted that the first strategic state document in the field of human rights in our country – the state program for the protection of human rights was approved by the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev on June 18, 1998. This state program determined the provision of human rights as one of the main directions of state policy. Taking this into account, in accordance with the order of President Ilham Aliyev dated June 18, 2007, Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on June 18 in Azerbaijan.

As the Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan, I announce Human Rights Month in the country (May 18-June 18). In this regard, I call on state and local self-government bodies, scientific, educational and medical institutions, civil society institutions, including non-governmental organizations and the media, to join this initiative and organize a number of events dedicated to human rights within the framework of the month”.
