Tougher punishment for violent sexual acts with a minor

Punishments for raping a minor, using violence against a victim, for refusing to have sexual intercourse with him with the threat of using such violence, or for taking advantage of the helpless state of the victim are being toughened, APA reports.

This was reflected in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code, which was discussed at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Human Rights and was recommended to the plenary session of the Parliament.

According to the draft, in this case, punishment will be applied in the form of deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years. According to the draft, a person under the age of 18 will be considered a minor (child).
