Foreign citizen arrested on suspicion of espionage

A citizen of a foreign state has been arrested in Azerbaijan on suspicion of espionage, Report news agency reported citing information released by the State Security Service.

In the course of the ongoing investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that a citizen of a foreign state, Gaedi Mohammad Najaf oglu, born in 1994. engaged in espionage on the territory of Azerbaijan.

According to the State Security Service, on the basis of numerous evidence collected, it was established that Gaedi Mohammad Najaf oglu, on behalf of the special services of a foreign state, was organizing the collection and transfer of information that is a state secret for use to the detriment of the security interests of Azerbaijan, including obtaining personal data of law enforcement officers Azerbaijan, establishing personal relations with them in order to involve them in secret cooperation with the special services of a foreign country.

Gaedi Mohammad Najaf oglu was prosecuted under Article 276 (espionage) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against him by the court.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
