The court upheld the appeal of the convicted former official

The Baku Court of Appeal has considered the complaint of the former head of the Sabunchu district department of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription, Colonel Rovshan Babayev, accused of bribery, against the verdict of the Baku Military Court, Trend news agency reports. According to the decision, the verdict of the Baku Military Court was changed and the term of Babayev’s imprisonment was reduced from 4 to 3 years.

Rovshan Babayev was detained in 2021 while accepting a bribe during an operation carried out by employees of the Main Anti-Corruption Department. It turned out that in 2016-2019, he, in collusion with the senior officer of the conscription department of the commissariat Yashar Huseynov and 3 other persons, created the conditions for the illegal recognition of 11 people as unfit for military service. According to the verdict of the Baku Military Court, Rovshan Babayev was sentenced to 4 years in prison, Yashar Huseynov – to 3 years in prison.
