Former embassy employee sentenced to 6 years in prison

On June 5, 2023, the Baku Grave Crimes Court announced the verdict to the former financial attache of the Azerbaijani Embassy in South Korea, Najib Osmanov, Turan reports. The court sentenced him to 6 years in prison. At the same time, the undertaking not to leave was replaced by arrest in the courtroom. Osmanov was found guilty of misappropriation of funds on a large scale, abuse of office and official forgery.

Osmanov admitted his guilt and repented of his deed. He stated that he went down this path because of his addiction to gambling.

According to the indictment, Osmanov from May 2021 to February 2022 appropriated the funds provided for the expenses of the embassy, utility and insurance payments of employees.

He spent funds in the amount of 347 thousand manats on gambling and sweepstakes on the Internet
