Operation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Border Service in the Imishli region: there are arrested

As a result of another joint operation of employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the border detachment “Horadiz” of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, illegal drug trafficking on an especially large scale was prevented, oxu.az reports citing a press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Based on operational information received during an event held in the Imishli region, residents of the city of Goychay, previously convicted Ruslan Gasimov, Nurlan Mehdiyev and Elmir Ismayilov, were detained for drug trafficking. In total, 58 kg of marijuana and 1,030 methadone tablets were found in these individuals. The detainees stated that, through the mediation of an Iranian citizen named “Seid”, drugs were delivered from the border village of Garagyuvendikli to Baku in order to further sell them to individuals.

On this fact, a criminal case was initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against the detainees, and operational and investigative measures are ongoing.

“Over the past three months, in the course of joint operations carried out by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Border Service in order to prevent the smuggling of prohibited substances from Iran to our country, more than 500 kg of drugs and psychotropic substances have been seized from illegal circulation,” the report says.
