Attempt to sell 134 kg of drugs prevented

As a result of a special operation conducted jointly by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Border Service, illegal trafficking of drugs smuggled from Iran to Azerbaijan was prevented, Report informs citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Thus, during the events held by police and border guards in the Imishli district, Samit Mammadov and his acquaintance Hidayat Rashidov were detained. 134 kg of drugs – marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances, heroin, opium and 1000 methadone tablets – were found in their vehicle.

The detainees admitted that, with the help of an Iranian citizen, they took the drugs from a hiding place in the Imishli district for their further delivery to various addresses in Baku.

A criminal case has been opened on the basis of the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan; a court decision has chosen a preventive measure in the form of arrest for those detained.
