Appeal Court sentences fraud accused to 6 years

A man who committed fraud worth 124,000 manat in Baku was sentenced to 6 years after appealing the acquittal of the appellate court, Report informs. The decision was made at a session of the Baku Appeal Court. Tarlan Gasimov, who was charged under Article 178.3.2 (fraud committed on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was re-sentenced to 6 years in prison.

Gasimov was accused of fraud worth 124,000 manat, and the first sentence of 6 years in prison was handed down to him by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

However, the Baku Appeal Court acquitted Tarlan Gasimov, and he was released from custody.

The prosecutor filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court, which upheld the appeal and sent the case back to the Baku Appeal Court for retrial.

On retrial in the Court of Appeal, the acquittal was overturned.
